Pre-raphaelite Art

Whether painted furniture, book illustrations, textiles or tiles, the decorative arts were as important as the now famous oil paintings in developing the distinctive Pre-Raphaelite style and were also instrumental in bringing their work to a wide audience. The V&A collection is also rich in drawings and photographs, and all these combine to bring alive the working practices and sources of inspiration – from choice of models to literature, history and the natural world – which linked artists such as Edward Burne-Jones, William Homan Hunt, Dante Gabriel Rosetti and John Everett Millais. The result is a new and fresh approach to the work of the Pre-Raphaelites, and one that will reinforce their enduring popularity.
